Every year, Florida Christian participates in the annual FACCS Brain Bowl Competition in Orlando. This year FCS took three teams to the competition, which took place in the beginning of February. The teams all started strong on Thursday and gained momentum as the day continued. The C Team, consisting of seniors Michael Delgado, Nick Estevez, Alex Barros, Alex Somodevilla and Andy Vega, led the way for FCS, finishing the day at the top with 640 points pushing them into the finalist round. Team A, made up of senior Taylor-Maz Ricart and juniors Stephano Bortoletto, Carlos Bolanos, Michelle Figueroa, Elena Dossett, and Elizabeth Foley; and the B Team, made up of seniors Alex Andrade, Evan Clark, and juniors Chris Martinez, Danny Gonzalez, and Alex Diaz and sophomore Josh Padron also had great rounds and qualified for the consolation round.
However, Friday would belong to Florida Christian's C Team. The team had an extremely fast start shutting out cross-town rival Dade Christian 90-0 and defeating defending champion Rocky Bayou Christian 110-5. As the teams departed for lunch break, FCS held a 155 point lead over second place Evangelical Christian. FCS ended the day with 815 points while Evangelical Christian fell short with 765 points.
Congratulations to the Brain Bowl team for winning the FACCS State Championship. We would also like to congratulate Nicholas Esvevez who was the highest scorer for both the finalist round and the overall competition.
