The 4th grade classes spent an exciting day at the Miccosukee Indian Village on February 23rd. The students were treated to alligator handling demonstrations, historical and cultural discussions, and an airboat ride through the Everglades.
Kevin Cruz from Mrs. Green’s class said he enjoyed “the alligator wrestling the best because it showed how they were caught in the old days.” Kevin enjoyed learning how the alligator skin is used along with the rest of the alligator. He also said he liked listening to the tour guide and seeing bows, paddles, tools and jewelry made by the Miccosukee. Kevin was surprised to learn that only the women cook, not the men.
Fourth grader Ethan Machin’s favorite experience of the day was the airboat ride. He said he enjoyed how fast the boat felt.
What a blessing for our 4th graders to learn about this fascinating people!
