ISSF Star Students 2017
Florida Christian School is a member of the Independent Schools of South Florida, ISSF. ISSF is an association that consists of approximately 70 private schools. The association holds competitions for students, informational meetings for administration, and workshops for faculty members. Each year the ISSF hosts a luncheon, at which, schools can nominate students as their “Star Students.” This year’s Florida Christian School “Star Students” are listed below:
Katherine Padron, Elementary Star Student
Katherine Padron is an exceptional fifth grade student. Not only is she an Honor Roll student, but she is also very involved in school activities. She is the captain of the Safety Patrol Team and is an elementary cheerleader. She loves and excels in her Language class and as a result, her Haiku Poem is going to the Language Arts Regional Competition. She is an active member of her church, “The Way”, and participates in helping the homeless. On Thanksgiving, she helps give out turkeys to the families in need and the week before school starts she helps fill book bags that contain school supplies for students in need. In addition, she has participated with her family in “Feeding the Starving Children” program. We are very proud of Katherine and thank her for helping our community become a better place in to live in!
Isabella Villaverde, Middle School Start Student
Isabella exudes responsibility through her involvement in school, extracurricular activities and her local church. She is passionate about helping people, but her zeal for the Lord exceeds all else. She exclaims, “Even though I want to become a doctor when I’m older, I still want to spread God’s Word in any way I can.”
She has proven herself to be diligent in her studies, an honest, hard-working student. She is a Principal’s All A Honor Roll Student and a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Last school year, she received the Principal’s Outstanding Student Award and an Honorable Mention in the Middle School Science Fair. She has been a part of several community service projects, such as, donating clothes to the Goodwill, distributing turkeys to over 1,000 homeless in Florida City and providing a brighter day to the elderly in an assistant living facility in Miami.
Nicole Fontela, High School Star Student
Nicole is currently ranked #1 in the senior class. She is a Principal’s All A Honor Roll Student, a member of the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society. She is a recipient of the Principal’s Outstanding Student Award and has received various subject awards such as AP US History, Honors Pre-Calculus and Honors Chemistry. She has been involved in a variety of school activities such as Key Club, class secretary, and class representative. She has also been a member of the varsity girls’ volleyball team for 4 years. She was selected as this year’s 2017 Homecoming Queen.
