Choir


Florida Christian School offers choir for elementary, middle school, and senior high students. These groups are featured in concert at FCS for the Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Concert, Pre-Evaluation Concert and Spring Concert, as well as singing at charitable and community events around the city, including Miami Children’s Hospital and the Rotary Club of Coral Gables. As members of the Florida Vocal Association (FVA), FCS students participate in annual District and State solo, ensemble, and choral evaluations each year.

FCS choral students also participate in the annual Florida Vocal Association All State auditions and represent the school at the All State Concerts at the FMEA Conference in Tampa. Middle School and Elementary choirs compete in the annual FACCS Fine Arts competition. High school students have sung at Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Candlelight Ceremony at Disney’s EPCOT, and have toured Europe with the Florida Ambassadors of Music. Middle school students perform at the City Walk Plaza stage at Universal Studios.

Middle and high school participate and have been selected as grand champions at the annual Junior Orange Bowl Caroling Competition. The choral department is directed by Jeannine Stemmer.

 

High School Honors Women’s Ensemble

High school honors women’s ensemble is a select ensemble of female singers in grades 9-12 who represent FCS at numerous on and off campus concerts, church, and community functions. These singers represent the highest level of vocal accomplishment in the Florida Christian choral program. All students in this class are required to study privately, participate in yearly solo/ensemble evaluations sponsored by the Florida Vocal Association. They perform in every school chorus concert. In addition to performing choral music, they also master basic music theory, basic music history, and sight reading.

High School Women’s Chorale

High school women’s chorale is a non-auditioned group of female singers in grades 9-12 who work together to learn the basics of choral production, sight-reading, and music theory. They travel with the mixed ensemble on tours and trips and take part in yearly evaluations sponsored by the Florida Vocal Association. They perform in every school chorus concert. In addition to performing choral music, they also master basic music theory, basic music history, and sight reading.

High School Mixed Ensemble

High school mixed ensemble is an advanced group of auditioned male and female singers in grades 9-12 who participate in numerous concerts on and off campus. The singers travel yearly to participate in evaluations on a district and state level. They perform in every school chorus concert. In addition to performing choral music, they also master basic music theory, basic music history, and sight reading.
