ISSF Star Students 2018
Florida Christian School is a member of the Independent Schools of South Florida, ISSF. ISSF is an association that consists of approximately 70 private schools. The association holds competitions for students, informational meetings for administration, and workshops for faculty members. Each year the ISSF hosts a luncheon, at which, schools can nominate students as their “Star Students.” This year’s Florida Christian School “Star Students” are listed below:
Elementary Star Student – Rebecca Kemerer
Rebecca Kemerer is an exceptional student who displays outstanding leadership abilities. She is a diligent worker and a determined young lady. Rebecca has been on the Principal’s Honor Roll since Kindergarten, and is always helping the teachers as well as her fellow classmates. She plays the flute in the fifth grade band at school and on the weekends she helps with the Children’s Choir at her church. She has also earned a junior black belt in Kung Fu. Rebecca loves all types of animals and her dream is to become a veterinarian.
Middle School Star Student – Carolina Morales
This year’s ISSF Star Award for the middle school goes to Carolina Morales. She exudes responsibility through her involvement in school, extracurricular activities and the local church, where she longs to bless others and spread God’s Word. She is currently a member of the Junior Honor Society, diligent in her studies, and has been a part of several Community Service projects. She was involved in a veterans walk, helps in the local church in the kids ministry, participates in worship in her church and this year after two hurricanes affected our community and nation Carolina along with a friend started a fund to help raise money for the victims.
She exclaims, “In the future, as I continue to work hard to reach my dream of getting a medical degree, I would also like to start a charity to help those less fortunate in the world.”
High School Start Student – Karina Tohme
Karina, our High School Star Student, has attended Florida Christian since the 6th grade. She is currently ranked #1 academically in the Senior class. She is an Honors Student and is currently serving as Secretary for the National Honor Society and as Senior Class Representative. In addition to a rigorous course load including four AP classes, Karina also excels in extra-curricular activities. As a member of the National Science Honors Society and Key Club, she has used her talents and passion for others to impact those in her community and around the world. In athletics, she has lettered in both Varsity Soccer and Volleyball, where she received All-County recognition and was selected to the Senior All-Star Game. She is considered by her peers as both a leader and friend and was voted this year’s Homecoming Queen. Karina has also been selected to the 2018 Florida Christian Hall of Fame and represents her class as “Most Athletic” and a finalist for Miss FCS. Her achievements in and out of the classroom exemplify the type of student Florida Christian desires to produce, exhibiting Faith, Character and Success!
