The Florida Christian School Band Program has a long tradition of musical excellence. The program consistently earns top marks in both our large group and individual music performance assessments. Our instruction is rooted in a kinesthetic approach to teaching musical fundamentals and using modern wind orchestra techniques in musical rehearsal. The variety of musical repertoire studied each semester will typically include: sacred chorales and hymns, classical and orchestral transcriptions, traditional and modern wind band music, movie scores and pop music, modern chamber music, and applicable genres of Jazz. Our jazz band specifically studies Swing, Latin, Fusion, Bop, West Coast, Traditional forms, Funk and Afro-Cuban jazz genres. Our classes rehearse by grade for 5th-8th and perform in three separate ensembles. Our high school Symphonic and Jazz Big Band ensembles are combined grades 9-12 and rehearse each day in separate periods.
Band program activities include FBA Music Performance Assessment in solo, ensemble and concert categories at the district and state levels, FBA Honors Band, FMEA All-State, FCS Band program Christmas and Spring Concerts, Jazz combo and chamber music performances for school & local events, and Drumline/stand band for Varsity football games.
FCS Bands also have multiple opportunities to perform/clinic outside of Miami with recent destinations including Palm Beach Atlantic University, Southeastern University, Universal Studios, Walt Disney World, Winter Park, CO, New York, NY, and Osaka, Japan.
