During his time at Florida Christian School, Scott Goetz was a standout multi-sport athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and track and field. In 1973, he captured the state championship in discus, cementing his place among FCS’s elite athletes. After setting records at FCS, Scott continued his athletic career at Liberty University, where he became an All-American football player. Following college, he began his professional journey as a coach—instilling a winning attitude in his athletes and transforming losing teams into competitive programs. Scott is an encourager whose greatest joy has always been bringing out the best in others. Beyond athletics, he has faithfully served as an associate pastor in churches across South Florida and Georgia. Today, he continues his ministry as a Certified Life Coach, equipping pastors, church leaders, and entrepreneurs to thrive in their callings.
Ginger Gravlin quickly made her mark in athletics at Florida Christian School, where she and her sister paved the way for FCS swimming by representing the school in high school competition. Excelling in the 200 and 500 Freestyle, she placed second at districts and advanced to the State Championships her senior year. After graduation, Ginger continued her swimming career at the University of Miami on an academic scholarship, earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Administration. She went on to build a distinguished career as a teacher and coach, remaining active in education and swimming, and was most recently named the Sun Sentinel’s High School Swim Coach of the Year (2024–2025). Grateful for the strong academic and spiritual foundation she received at FCS, Ginger credits her teachers’ dedication to Christ and the love they showed every student as examples she continues to strive to emulate.
One of the most accomplished swimmers in FCS history, Heather earned First Team All-County honors all four years of high school and was named Miami Herald Swimmer of the Year in 1988 and 1989. She captured three consecutive district titles in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events and was a three-time state qualifier, finishing 2nd in the 200-yard and 3rd in the 500-yard freestyle in 1989. That same year, Heather competed at the USA Swimming National Championship against Olympian Janet Evans, placing 9th, and at the Olympic Sports Festival, where she medaled in three events—1st in the 400m, 2nd in the 800m, and 5th in the 200m freestyle. Heather went on to swim for the University of Miami on a full athletic scholarship and was honored as the 1993 NCAA Woman of the Year for the State of Florida. After college, she became a successful open-water competitor, placing eight times in the 12.5-mile Swim Around Key West—winning in 2008—and completing 66 miles over four legs of the Eight Bridges Hudson River Swim.
Danny was a standout on the baseball diamond and a key member of Florida Christian’s back-to-back state championship teams. He was named the Class 2A Player of the Year, earned First Team All-County honors twice, and was selected in the 2005 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians. Choosing to further his career through college, Danny played at Broward College before earning an athletic scholarship to the University of Tennessee and later finishing at Barry University. In 2009, he was drafted by the Texas Rangers and went on to play for two years in their organization.
Karla was a multi-sport athlete at Florida Christian, competing in volleyball, softball, basketball, and track and field. In volleyball, she was named Dade County Player of the Year, earned First Team All-County honors twice, and was selected to the Florida All-State Team. She also trained with Team Florida under FIU coach Cookie Stevens. Karla went on to play at Nova Southeastern University on a full athletic scholarship, where she was a three-time MVP and set 13 school records, including career kills (1,091) and blocks (221).
Danny starred on the football field for Florida Christian, establishing himself as one of the top running backs in the state. He was the leading rusher in Dade County, named First Team All-County, and earned Third Team All-State honors. At one point, he ranked as the fourth leading rusher in Florida. During his Patriot career, Danny set the school rushing record with 1,816 yards in just nine games. Following his standout years at FCS, he continued his football career at Columbia University.
Don was a two-sport athlete at Florida Christian, competing in football and basketball as a member of the Class of 1972. In football, he was a member of the 1971 district championship team that finished as state runner-up and was selected to the All-County First Team on offense his senior year. After graduation, he continued his education at Florida Bible College before transferring to Miami Christian College, where he played basketball and earned dual degrees in Theology and Psychology/Counseling in 1978. Following his playing career, Don dedicated his life to ministry, counseling, and leadership, serving as both a staff counselor and later as president and CEO of multiple companies. He retired in 2019 after a long career as a product specialist with Armstrong International. Don is married to his high school sweetheart, Gina Gathings, FCS Class of 1974.
Dr. Robert Andrews devoted 47 years to Florida Christian, serving as teacher, coach, Athletic Director, Principal and Headmaster. On the sidelines, he coached junior high, JV and varsity teams in basketball, football, baseball, and track and field—winning a district championship in track, leading conference championship teams, and coaching some of the top athletes FCS produced in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. He also served as an assistant basketball coach and offensive coordinator in football. Throughout his career, Dr. Andrews modeled faith, character, and excellence, faithfully sharing the simple, life-changing message of the gospel and leaving a lasting impact on FCS athletics and its student-athletes.
Jim Arnold served Florida Christian School for 44 years, leaving a lasting impact as a teacher, coach, Athletic Director, and High School Principal. Early in his career, he often led three different sports teams in a single school year, demonstrating his dedication. He guided FCS teams to district and conference championships in baseball, football, basketball, and softball, mentoring some of the school’s top athletes from the 1970s through the 1990s. Known for his servant’s heart, Jim also contributed countless hours refereeing and helping to build the foundation of FCS athletics. Later, as High School Principal, he shaped generations of students, instilling faith, character, and a commitment to excellence that continues to influence the FCS community today.
